Kountz, Johnson II Earn All-Big Sky honors

Daylen Kountz and Matt Johnson II were named to the All-Big Sky team
BOISE, Idaho – Daylen Kountz and Matt Johnson II have provided Northern Colorado men's basketball with a tough one-two punch all season long. The duo earned All-Big Sky honors announced by the conference Tuesday morning.
Kountz was a unanimous first team selection while Johnson II earned third team honors for the second straight year.
Kountz was the Big Sky's scoring king with 647 points on the year, 442 of them coming in Big Sky play. He is averaging 20.9 points this season and 22.1 in conference play. The senior has cracked the 20-point mark 20 times this year, six more than the next closest player in the Big Sky.
He scored 30 points twice in Big Sky play against Portland State and Southern Utah. His career-high 33 points came against then No. 2 Arizona in December. Kountz is also averaging 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
Johnson II is one of the top point guards in the conference helping him to his second straight third team honor. The Aurora, Colorado native is averaging 14.0 points and 3.8 assists per game. In Big Sky play those averages rose to 14.9 points and 4.2 assists.
Six times during the conference season he recorded five-plus assists including twice dropping a career-best eight dimes against Northern Arizona and Idaho. Johnson II ended the regular season on a tear scoring in double figures over the last eight games averaging 19.5 points and 3.1 assists in that span.
Kountz, Johnson II and the rest of the Bears enter the Big Sky Tournament as the No. 3 seed with their first game scheduled for Thursday, March 10 at 8 pm MT. The game will air on ESPN and can be heard on 1310 KFKA and 103.1 FM.
