Swim and Dive tabbed 3rd as Bears prep for WAC Championships

GREELEY, Colo.- UNC Swim and Dive will hit the road as they prepare to compete in the WAC Championships held in Houston, Texas on Feb. 23-26. Ahead of the meet, Northern Colorado was picked to finish 3rd by the conference's head coaches.

Northern Arizona was tabbed as the unanimous favorite with the Bears finishing one point behind New Mexico State.

UNC brings a bit of momentum into the Lone Star State after a solid showing at DU's First Chance Meet. Northern Colorado brought home a second-place overall finish and beat out both DU and Wyoming. They also secured multiple winning individual performances.

In the 100 fly, Madelyn Moore finished first with a time of 54.49. Anna Austin and Chelaine van der Westhuizen also claimed first-place victories for UNC in the 200 fly and 200 breast, clocking times of 2:04.34 and 2:17.82, respectively. Katelyn Bergin rounded out the wins for the Bears in the 200 IM as well.

Doris Pusztay also brought the heat for the Bears, earning a 52.66 in the 100 free, finishing second in the 200 free, clocking a 23.98 in the 50 free, and winning second place in the 200 IM. All of this was enough to earn her WAC Swimmer of the Week honors.

Northern Colorado finished fourth in the 2021 Championships. Last year, head coach Lisa Ebeling's crew turned in 39 lifetime bests, 28 top-10 all-time performances, a school record, 23-top-16 performances, 17 top-8 swims, two bronze medals, four silver and four gold.
