Opening Tip
Senior guard Jayce Gorzeman continues to trend in the right direction. The Las Cruces, New Mexico native has scored in double-figures in three straight games, the longest such streak of her career.
Sophomore Hannah Simental is downright deadly from three-point range. Simental has hit a three in 12 straight games is shooting 40.4 percent from beyond the arc, second-best in the Big Sky entering Thursday's matchup.
Head coach Kristen Mattio's bench has been pivotal this season. Thirteen times across the 2021-22 campaign the UNC reserves have outscored their opponent.
Sixty points are the magic number for Northern Colorado's defense this year. Eleven times the Bears have held their opponents to less than 60 points and are 9-2 on the season when they do so. Four different times, UNC has allowed less than 50.
Last Time Out
Jayce Gorzeman led the way with 11 points, her third straight game in double figures, but Northern Colorado couldn't run down Southern Utah in the second half, falling 77-53.
Scouting the Bengals
Head coach Seton Sobolewski and the Bengals walk into Bank of Colorado as the No. 1 team in the Big Sky. The conference's third-best offense and fifth-best defense in the conference get a majority of its execution from its guard play.
Idaho State ranks first in turnovers forced, turnover margin, steals and assists. At 2.5 steals per game, Tomekia Whitman ranks second in the conference and No. 45 in the nation. Meanwhile, Estefania Ors is in top-10 in both assists per game and assist to turnover ratio.
As a team, the Bengals boast an assist to turnover ratio of 1.07. The best in the Big Sky and No. 50 in the nation.
History against Idaho State
It's the first time since 2020 the Bengals will step foot in Bank of Colorado Arena with both matchups from last season held in Pocatello. UNC looks to avenge its loss to ISU back in January. Three different Bears reached double-figures in that game, but late free-throws held off the Northern Colorado comeback. All-time, the Bears are 12-25 against Idaho State
