Bears Start Road Trip at Idaho State

UNC men's basketball starts its weekend road trip at Idaho State Thursday night
GREELEY, Colo. – Coming off a 17-point comeback win Northern Colorado men's basketball hits the road this weekend for a pair of games starting with facing Idaho State Thursday night. The Bears and Bengals will play their first of two games over a three-game span in Pocatello with a 7 pm tip-off.
Opening Tip
- Northern Colorado made a dramatic 17-point comeback over the final 5:37 to defeat Southern Utah 100-95 Monday night. UNC outscored SUU 32-10 over that final span.
- Daylen Kountz was named the Big Sky Player of the Week after averaging 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists against Southern Utah and Sacramento State.
- Kountz continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring averaging 21.4 points per game and ranking ninth in the nation. In Big Sky play he is averaging 23.8 ppg. He has scored 20-plus points in eight straight games.
- Dalton Knecht scored a big 13 points off the bench for UNC including seven points during the stretch run.
- Matt Johnson II scored a career-high 24 points in the win over SUU. Matty Ice was a cool 6-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch and had six assists.
- UNC cracked the triple-digit mark for the first time this year with its 100 points on Monday. The Bears shot a season-best 64.9% from the field.
- The Bears are averaging 78.2 points per game to rank second in the Big Sky and 28th in the nation.
- Northern Colorado leads the Big Sky in both field goal percentage (48.0%) and three-point field goal shooting (38.4%). They rank in the top 20 in both categories in the nation.
Scouting the Bengals
Idaho State has picked up a pair of wins over the past two weeks to improve its record to 3-11 in Big Sky play. They beat Montana at home and then won the Battle of the Domes at Idaho a week ago.
Tarik Cool leads Idaho State in scoring with 12.4 points per game. He is the lone Bengal to average double figures scoring as they have struggled offensively scoring 63.6 points a game.
Teams have been able to score against ISU who is giving up 74.1 points a game and opponents are shooting 45.6% from the field.
Around the Big Sky
Winners of 11 straight games, Montana State sits atop the Big Sky standings heading into this week's action. The Bobcats travel to Eastern Washington on Thursday. UNC is 2.5 games behind MSU for the league lead.
