GREELEY, Colo.- Northern Colorado Women's Basketball and Head Coach Kristen Mattio welcome yet another talent to their roster with the addition of Tatum West.
West will make her way to Greeley next fall by way of Combine, Texas and will bring a long list of accolades with her to Northern Colorado after becoming a four-year letterwinner for Crandall High School.
"The past few years, we have had the privilege of watching Tatum grow and develop into a solid and versatile player," said Mattio. "Tatum has a competitive spirit within her that rivals her competition. She plays the game with passion and purpose."
West is also the No. 22 ranked recruit in the state of Texas for the 2023 class according to Jason Keys and Premier Basketball. In her junior season, West averaged 16.9 points per game and 12 rebounds.
The 6'1" forward was also named First Team All-District three times, was voted Newcomer of the Year her freshman season, and earned District Defensive MVP last season. She is also a two-time Team MVP and Offensive MVP and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her high school career last season.
"With her long athletic frame, guard-like skills, and basketball IQ, she will cause match up issues for teams. Tatum is a strong combo player that can post up and put it on the floor to score at the rim or pull up jumper. Tatum's mobility will really allow her to thrive in the open court and she is highly efficient in the paint," said Mattio. "She will flourish in our up-tempo style of play and be a vital part of our future. Defensively, she can really control the boards with her ability to move out of area and rebound. You won't find a young lady more passionate and invested in her success on the court and in the classroom than Tatum."
In addition to her prolific high school career, West played AAU basketball for Higher Goals, one of the top AAU programs in Texas.
"Tatum played AAU basketball for Higher Goals, one of the top AAU programs in Texas, and was mentored by coach Wayne Watts. She has also been fortunate to play high school basketball for Coach Laura Holmes at Crandall High School. We couldn't be more thrilled to have Tatum and her entire family join our Bear family," said Mattio.
West chose UNC over multiple institutions including Montana State, Tarleton State, Incarnate Word, Texas State, New Mexico State, Fresno State, Binghamton, and the University of Pennsylvania.
