Alirez named Big 12, NCAA Wrestler of the Week

IRVING, Texas—Following a win at the prestigious NWCA All-Star Classic, Northern Colorado's Andrew Alirez was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday.
Facing the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the 141-pound weight class, Alirez continued his undefeated season with a 4-2 overtime win in a bout against Pitt's Cole Matthews.
Following the result, Alirez moved into the No. 1 position in the latest Win Magazine rankings and was also selected as the NCAA Wrestler of the Week.
The Big 12 award is the fourth such honor for a UNC wrestler with the last picked up by Mosha Schwartz during the 2020 season.

The Bears will return to action on Dec. 4 at SIUE's Cougar Clash. The Bears will make their home debut on Dec. 18 with the UNC Duals inside the Bank of Colorado Arena.
