Kountz leads UNC to overtime win over Jacksonville State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—In a game that featured 16 lead changes, Northern Colorado was nearly flawless in overtime to defeat Jacksonville State, 86-82, in the second day of action at the Lobo Classic on Saturday.
After generating an eight-point lead at the halftime break, Northern Colorado (3-4) cooled off slightly to allow a Jacksonville State (2-4) rally which sent the contest into an extra period after a 69-69 score through the first 40 minutes of play.
With a pair of free throws, the Gamecocks struck first in the overtime period, but the Bears connected on four of its first five field goal attempts, including a pair of acrobatic layups from Daylen Kountz and a clutch 3-pointer by Caleb Shaw for an 81-76 advantage with 1:51 to play.
The Bears went on to shoot 4-of-6 from the floor and iced the win with 8-of-9 makes from the free throw line in the overtime session.
Kountz led the team with a 23-point effort while Shaw tallied 19. Finishing with 16 points, Matt Johnson II helped the Bears to the early first-half lead after burying 4-of-5 shots from 3-point land in the first half of play.
Jacksonville State, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago, was led by a 25-point night from Demaree King.
After a win against North Dakota State on Friday, the Bears will look to go 3-0 at the Lobo Classic when they face the host squad from New Mexico on Sunday for their third match in three days. Opening tip against the Lobos is set for 5:30 p.m.
