SAN ANTONIO—Trailing by 10 deep into the third quarter, Northern Colorado connected on seven 3-pointers in the final quarter alone to split its Texas road trip with a 63-56 win over Incarnate Word on Thursday.
Held to just five points in the second quarter and down by six at the break, Northern Colorado (3-1) was carried by the hot shooting of Delaynie Byrne and Hannah Simental to erase the double-digit deficit.
Simental's make at the 1:40 mark gave the Bears the lead for good at 54-52 and after forcing a miss on the other end, Simental pulled up again from deep to extend the advantage.
In the final minute of play, Simental teamed up with Gabi Fields and Sydney Stensgard to hit 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to ice the game over Incarnate Word (1-2).
Less than a week after combining for 43 points, Simental and Byrne combined for 38 with both players notching 19-point nights. The teammates converted 10-of-15 from beyond the 3-point line in the game.
Aniah Hall finished with seven points while Fields and Averee Kleinhans chipped in with six each.
The Bears will close out their four-game road stretch at North Dakota State on Nov. 22. UNC next plays at home on Nov. 26 when it hosts Adams State. Opening jump against the Grizzlies is set for 2 p.m. inside the Bank of Colorado Arena.
