Northern Colorado (12-8, 6-3 Big Sky) won in a shootout of sorts in the opener as both teams hit over .400, but the team with the Big Sky's No. 1 offense clamped down on the other end by holding Eastern Washington (8-12, 3-5 Big Sky) to .167 in the second before smothering the Eagles to a -.226 hit rate in the finale.
Kailey Jo Ince led the team with 11 kills and nine digs, but the Bears received significant contributions from a variety of sources, including action from four freshman inBrynn Reines , Rachel Greek, Zoe Gibbs, and Mia Liddiard. Gibbs established a career high with six kills (.667) on the night.
In addition, seniors Kelsie Milkowski and Mimi Dunda helped energize the team in the third set blowout. Dunda was in on four blocks in the third set alone.
Overall, the Bears hit a season-high .424 as a team. Its previous best efficiency of .419 occurred in a sweep at home against North Carolina on August 27.
Northern Colorado will hit the road next when it faces two of the top teams in the league with visits to Sacramento State on Oct. 27 and at Big Sky leading Portland State on Oct. 29.
