GREELEY, Colo. – Facing one of the most challenging and adversity-ridden years in recent memory with a global pandemic, Northern Colorado student-athletes rose to the occasion by setting an all-time best 3.33 cumulative GPA after yet another stellar semester in the classroom.
Across the Spring Semester, the Bears boasted a term GPA of 3.41, accounting for its 17th-straight straight semester above 3.00. All 17 programs claimed a GPA of 3.00 or better.
"The hard work of our student-athletes never ceases to impress me," said Director of Athletics Darren Dunn. "Not only have they delivered an outstanding year in their respective sports but they've also overcome every challenge that's been thrown at them in an unprecedented year in college sports. I'm so appreciative of the work of our academic staff, coaches and faculty as they continue to help our student-athletes become Champions for Life."
Swim and Dive set the pace this spring, tallying a 3.77 term GPA with Women's Golf close behind at 3.70. The two programs also have the best cumulative GPA at 3.78 and 3.68, respectively.
Six programs earned GPAs north of 3.5 in Men's Golf, Women's Basketball, Women's Golf, Women's Soccer, Swim and Dive and Volleyball.
Individually, an incredible 70 athletes earned 4.0's this semester and 32 possess a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.
Academic success is nothing new to the University of Northern Colorado Athletic Department. They have led the Big Sky in Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for four straight years and recorded a 90% mark in the latest reports released by the NCAA in November.
