MOSCOW, Idaho – The Bears are peaking at the right time Northern Colorado picked up its sixth straight victory on Monday night 3-1 over Idaho as they enter next week's Big Sky Tournament.
Similar to Sunday's contest, Idaho's aggressive serving made life a little difficult for UNC at the outset.
Once the Bears were able to control the game from the service line, it gave them a shot at taking the opening set.
Rachel Hickman and Kailey Jo Ince found the most success. Hickman had three kills on her four attempts in the set. Meanwhile, Ince put away four kills herself.
It was Idaho, though, who rallied for the final points of the set to take the opening frame for the second time in as many nights.
Again, the Vandals made it difficult to find any separation in the second set. A Daisy Schultz block and Lauren Hinrichs' ace, her second of the season helped UNC find itself with a four-point cushion.
With two attacking errors in the opening set, Taylor Muff wasn't going to make the same mistakes in the second. Three of Muff's six kills came as Northern Colorado closed on a 4-1 run.
The senior from Pittsburg, Kansas would finish with seven kills in the match.
As the Bears began to ramp up its aggressive serving, it found a bit of breathing room in the third set. Coming off four aces in the second set, Northern Colorado added another three in the third.
Hickman continued her outstanding performance. The sophomore ended the night leading the Bears with 15 kills and was a big presence on the net with seven blocks.
Midway through the fourth, UNC found itself a deep 17-11 hole but turned it on late to avoid the winner-take-all fifth set.
Hickman and Lauren Hinrichs combined to rattle off four straight points to cut the deficit to two forcing an Idaho timeout.
UNC rattled off six straight points to end the match and cap off the impressive 14-6 run to end the match.
