Bears welcome Vikings for final home series

UNC men's basketball hosts Portland State Thursday and Saturday
GREELEY, Colo. – For one last time in the 2020-21 season the Bears will hit the court inside Bank of Colorado. Northern Colorado hosts Portland State on Thursday at 6:30 pm and Saturday at noon. The two games will be the final two for senior Rodrick McCobb at the Bank.
Opening Tip
- UNC returned to the court on Monday with an 89-60 win over Warner Pacific.
- Matt Johnson II enters this with an eight-game streak of being the Bears' leading scorer. He tied for the lead on Monday with 15 points. Johnson II is averaging 19.6 points during that streak.
- Kur Jockuch recorded his second double-double of the year on Monday night with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He finished a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.
- Freshman Bryce Kennedy earned his first career start on Monday. He ended up with a career-high 13 points and a rebound shy of a double-double.
- Malcolm Little not only scored his first points in the Blue & Gold on Monday but went on to make five three-pointers to tie for the team lead with 15 points.
- Saturday's game is Senior Day for the Bears. Prior to the game, they will honor their lone senior Rodrick McCobb.
- For the second time this year Northern Colorado held its opponent without an offensive rebound. The Bears also held Regis without an o-board.
- Portland State has caught fire as of late winning six of their last seven games. The lone loss came in overtime. PSU is winners of four straight.
- Portland State swept the season series last year.
Scouting the Vikings
Head coach Barret Perry has his team trending in the right direction winning four straight and six of their last seven. The Vikings are coming off a sweep of Idaho including a 71-40 win last Saturday.
PSU will look to pressure the ball all game long with a full-court press forcing its opponents into 17.1 turnovers a game.
Three Vikings are scoring in double figures this year in James Scott (12.9), Khalid Thomas (10.9) and Amari McCray (10.7).
Around the Big Sky
The final two weeks of the regular season are here. Eastern Washington leads the Big Sky by one and half games over Southern Utah.
The Bears are in a group of six teams still battling it out for a bye in the Big Sky tournament in two weeks.
What's Ahead
Closes out the regular season with a trip to Ogden, Utah to face Weber State next Thursday and Saturday. After that it's off to Boise for the Big Sky Tournament.
