Men's Hoops Ready for Another Pac 12 Opponent Saturday

Northern Colorado men's basketball faces Washington State Saturday afternoon
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado men's basketball continues its tour of the PAC 12 on Saturday when they face Washington State at 2 pm MT. It marks the first time UNC and WSU face each other on the hardwood.
Opening Tip
- Northern Colorado gave Arizona all they could handle for 35 minutes on Wednesday night before the Wildcats pulled away 101-76.
- Daylen Kountz had a career night against Arizona scoring 33 points. He was efficient shooting 12-of-19 from the field including 4-of-5 from behind the arc. He was also a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
- Kountz leads the Big Sky in scoring at 20.1 points per game and ranks 19th in the nation.
- Matt Johnson II filled up the bucket for the Bears as well scoring 18 points on 75.0% shooting. He also led the team with four assists.
- Dru Kuxhausen had a big second half for UNC scoring all 15 of his points. The grad transfer made four shots from downtown and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the line.
- Saturday's game marks the first time UNC and Washington State have met on the hardwood in men's basketball.
- There is a connection between UNC and WSU in the form of Washington State head women's basketball coach Kamie Ethridge. Ethridge led the Bears' women's program from 2014-2018 taking the program to its first NCAA Tournament.
- This is the second straight game for UNC against a PAC 12 opponent.
Scouting the Cougars
Third year head coach Kyle Smith has Washington State headed in the right direction. The Cougars are 7-4 on the year including 1-1 in PAC 12 play. The Cougs dominated Southern California to open PAC 12 play with a 51-29 win.
A pair of players are scoring in double figures for WSU in Michael Flowers (14.2) and Noah Williams (13.1).
Washington State has already dropped once contest to a Big Sky school this year. Eastern Washington beat them 76-71 in November.
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado returns home for some holiday hoops to close out the non-conference season. UNC will host Northern New Mexico on Tuesday, December 21 at 6 pm.
