Cross Country Runs Well at Chile Pepper Festival

UNC's women's team placed 14th at the Chile Pepper Festival
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Competing in one of the biggest cross country meets of the year against some of the best competition, Northern Colorado Cross Country held its own at the Chile Pepper Festival over the weekend.
Freshly off their No. 15 ranking in the ultra-competitive Mountain Region, the women's team showed well with a pair of top 75 finishes in a field of over 300. Melodie Leroudier led the way for UNC finishing 24th with a time of 17:30.3. Claudine Blancaflor took 51st place with a run of 17:57.6 improving by a little over a second from her run at the Greeno Dirksen Invite two weeks ago.
The young combo of freshman Shantell Hafner, Chloe Rylance and sophomore Julia Brown ran well to help the women's team finish 14th overall.
On the men's side, Jesse Hayward led the Bears with a run of 25:47.0 to place 81st overall. The young team consisting of three freshmen ended up in 30th place.
What's Ahead
Once again UNC Cross Country will have a week in between competitions as they prepare for the NCAA Pre-Nationals hosted by Florida State on October 15.
