Bears Continue to Raise Academic Bar

UNC Athletics posted a 3.40 fall term GPA
GREELEY, Colo. – Global pandemic, a new way of learning and going to class, no problem. The University of Northern Colorado Athletics department raised its cumulative GPA to an all-time best 3.29 after a strong fall semester.
The Bears combined for a term GPA of 3.40 to make it 16 straight semesters with a mark of 3.00 or better. All 17 programs now have a GPA of 3.00 or better, 3.10 to be exact.
"We are extremely proud of the work our student-athletes have put into their academics last fall. During these unprecedented times, they have adapted through many challenges last semester which will help prepare them to be Champions for Life," said Director of Athletics Darren Dunn. "The commitment of our academic staff, coaches and faculty to the success of our student-athletes is what makes Northern Colorado a special place."
Leading the way for the semester was swimming and diving with a mark of 3.83. Men's golf led all male sports with a 3.60.
The two programs are tied for the best cumulative GPA in the department at 3.68.
Six programs have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better in swim and dive, men's golf, women's cross country, women's golf, softball and soccer.
An outstanding 82 student-athletes earned a 4.0 during the fall semester and 47 currently hold a cumulative 4.0.
Academic success is nothing new to the University of Northern Colorado Athletic Department. They have led the Big Sky in Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for four straight years and recorded a 90% mark in the latest reports released by the NCAA in November.
UNC also had three programs rank inside the top 10% for their sport in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate report last spring. The programs were men's and women's cross country and women's golf.
