Rocky Mountain College transfer Hailey Derrickson joins UNC women's golf team
GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado women's golf added depth to its 2020-21 roster with the addition of Hailey Derrickson. Derrickson comes to UNC after spending a year at Rocky Mountain College.
"I am very excited and I believe very lucky to have Hailey attend and play for us at UNC. With the postponement of all-access recruiting this summer, it was difficult to recruit how I am used to," head coach Ben Portie said. "Hailey moved to Colorado in the past year after attending Rocky Mountain College in Montana for one year. Originally from Austin, Texas she competed and played in many events, once the golf tournaments started again during the pandemic. She was playing some very good golf against some tough competition driving to tournaments in Arizona, Washington, and Colorado. I was able to stay in touch with her swing instructor here in Colorado and knew that she had a sound swing and could compete at a high level. I do not doubt that she will be a wonderful UNC Bear in the classroom and on the golf course."
At Rocky Mountain College she helped the Battlin' Bears become nationally ranked in the NAIA. She was a two-time Frontier Conference Player of the Week and won a pair of events in the shortened 2019-20 season at RMC. Over the five tournaments Rocky Mountain played in, Derrickson finished in the top 15 of all of them and earned four top 5 finishes. She tied the program's record for the lowest single round with a 67 on her way to helping RMC earn its second tournament win of the year.
She graduated from Vandergrift High School where she was the team MVP in 2018.
The daughter of Michael Derrickson, she plans to major in psychology at UNC.
