UNC baseball accepted an invitation to the Summit League as an affiliate member starting with the 2022 season
GREELEY – The University of Northern Colorado's baseball team is on the move. The Bears will leave the Western Athletic Conference after the 2021 season to become an affiliate member of the Summit League. The move goes into effect on July 1, 2021.
"I want to thank the Western Athletic Conference and Commissioner Jeff Hurd for being great partners for the past eight years. His leadership during these challenging times has been greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to one final baseball season in the WAC. We have been proud of our affiliate membership as a part of WAC baseball," Director of Athletics Darren Dunn said. "I want to also thank the Summit League and Commissioner Tom Douple for the invitation into the league as an affiliate member."
The move from the WAC to Summit League helps the UNC baseball program align itself within a similar geographic footprint as its competition. By entering the Summit League it also helps reduce travel costs and the overall operation of the program.
In July 2021, Northern Colorado will join Omaha, Oral Roberts, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Western Illinois in the Summit League for baseball.
