Baseball Wins First Game of Double-Header

GREELEY, Colo. – A full day of baseball had the UNC Bears face off against North Dakota State in a double-header. In game one of the day, the Bears won a back-and forth-matchup with the Bison 5-4. The second game of the day was postponed after the sixth inning and will be completed tomorrow before the series finale.
Game 1
Sam Colehower got the start in game 1, going 4.1 innings and allowing two earned runs and tallying six strikeouts.
The Bison got on the board first in the top of the third inning, going up 1-0. However the Bears would pick up a run from Shaydon Kubo and another from Jake Gitter who hit a solo home run to put the Bears up 2-1 at the end of the third.
The fourth inning saw a lot of scoring as the Bison were able to put up two runs in the top of the inning. The Bears answered once again after Shaydon Kubo hit a two RBI single and Matt Burkart ran in for one more off an error to take back the lead 5-3.
After a scoreless fifth inning, North Dakota State was able to narrow the UNC lead to just 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth. The Bears would hold the Bison scoreless in the seventh and finished with a 5-4 win in game one of the day.

Game 2
North Dakota State was once again the first team to put runs on the board by scoring three in the top of the second. The Bears would load the bases in the bottom of the inning, but leave them on base to stay behind 3-0.
The Bison would add a run each in the third and fourth innings to lead 5-0 in the fifth. Four more runs would be scored by NDSU in the fifth to give the 9-0 lead with the Bears looking to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.
The game would be postponed at the end of the sixth inning due to light, and will be resumed tomorrow at noon. When that game finishes up, the teams will take a 30 minute intermission before playing the series finale.
