Bears Look to Bounce Back Saturday Against Hornets

Northern Colorado will host Sacramento State for Campers Day
Northern Colorado women's basketball looks to rebound after Thursday's game as they host the Hornets on Saturday.

Opening Tip
Northern Colorado played a close game against Northern Arizona on Thursday night, falling to the Lumberjacks, 71-60. The Bears showed the growth in the first quarter, scoring 28 points to lead NAU by 12. Alisha Davis poured in 12 points in the first quarter to lead the charge. In the second quarter, the Lumberjacks slowed down UNC's offense, holding them to 35.7 percent shooting. UNC also held NAU to 35.7 percent shooting, but was outscored 16-10 in the quarter. The Bears took a 38-32 lead into halftime. NAU kept the pressure on in the third quarter, shooting 46.7 percent. They jumped in front of UNC near the end of the quarter, but Alexis Chapman hit a buzzer-beater, three-pointer to give UNC a one-point lead. The Lumberjacks controlled the final period, outscoring UNC 18-6 to earn the win.
The Bears shot 35.4 percent from the floor and held the Lumberjacks to 36.5 percent.
Alisha Davis led UNC with 16 points against NAU, shooting an efficient 7-for-10 from the field. Davis also grabbed 6 rebounds and had three blocks. She now has 48 total blocks this season.
Ali Meyer had a solid game for UNC, scoring 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and getting seven rebounds. Meyer is second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game average.
UNC has outscored its opponents in the paint in 14 of the teams 22 games.
Scouting the Hornets
Sacramento State has a 6-8 record in the Big Sky this season and is 8-15 overall. The Hornets won a 71-62 game against Southern Utah on Thursday in Cedar City. Sac St. defeated Weber State 58-52 and lost to Idaho State, 75-51, last weekend. Kennedy Nicholas is the high scorer for the Hornets with a 14.2 points per game average. Nicholas is nearly averaging a double-double with 9.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 49.8 percent from the floor. Nicholas is one of five Hornets averaging double digit points.
History against Sac St
Northern Colorado has a 17-9 record against Sacramento State in program history. UNC is 10-2 against the Hornets in Greeley, while going 6-7 against them in Sacramento. The Bears are 1-0 on neutral sites. These two teams met back in January in Sacramento, with UNC winning a 73-63 game over the Hornets. Jasmine Gayles and Alexis Chapman each scored 16 points for the Bears.
