INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The second NCAA coaches' panel rankings were released on Thursday, along with the first ratings percentage index.
Northern Colorado had five wrestlers ranked by the coaches' panel, with Andrew Alirez(149 lbs) and Dalton Robertson(285 lbs) leading the way at No. 15 for the Bears. Mosha Schwartz(133 lbs) is ranked No. 19 and Jacob Seely(197 lb) earns the No. 21 spot. Alan Clothier(184 lbs) rounds out the ranked group for UNC at No. 27.
In the first RPI rankings, Jace Koelzer(125 lbs) joins the other five Bears, just making the cut at No. 33.
Alirez's rocketed up in the RPI rankings, earning the No. 6 spot. Schwartz also moves up to the No. 12 rankings and Clothier moves up to No. 18. Seely ranks No. 20 for the RPI and Dalton Robertson is listed at No. 25.
Clothier and Schwartz are tied for the team lead with 19 wins, earning five and two falls respectively. Alirez has 17 wins and is tied for the team lead with six falls. Robertson has recorded 16 wins, with five falls on the season. Seely has posted 14 wins, recording three falls. Koelzer has 12 wins this season.
The final rankings will be one of the criteria used as part of the selection process to determine qualifiers and seeding for the 2020 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on March 19-21 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
About the Rankings
The rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the seven conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, EIWA, MAC, Pac-12 and SoCon), which is double the voters that had previously been used for the coaches' panel rankings. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents in the weight class and have wrestled within the last 30 days to be ranked.
The RPI is a calculation that considers a wrestler's winning percentage, opponent winning percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class count towards the RPI and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked. Â
Northern Colorado is on the road this weekend for two duals, starting with Utah Valley on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.(MST) and Wyoming on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
