GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Women's Basketball won't return to the court until the new year but that doesn't mean they haven't been busy spreading some holiday cheer.
Involvement in the community has always been a staple for head coach Jenny Huth and Bears. This year, the team directed its giving efforts toward Toys for Tots.
"We know this year has been especially tough on families," said Huth. "We are hopeful to make a small difference in our community by joining forces with Toys for Tots.
"We are grateful for our opportunities and in light of that, we want to give back during these times."
Toys for Tots, a program run by the United States Marine Corps., has been organizing and distributing toys for children whose parents can't afford them since 1947.
"The Christmas Holiday season has always been such a beautiful time of the year for me," explained junior forward Micayla Isenbart. "In remembering the reason for celebration, the birth of our Savior, it is a time to spread his love, joy and blessings.
"Getting to be a part of the Toys for Tots drive and active in our community is such a wonderful opportunity to share that magic of the Christmas season. I am so blessed that basketball gives me the opportunity to touch lives on and off the court, especially during my favorite season!"
What started as merely a Women's Basketball initiative soon grew into a UNC Athletics-wide drive. Donations from across all departments filled the box, not to mention the many more who generously donated online.
Last Friday, members of the women's basketball team dropped off the donations, giving dozens of children in the area a small slice of joy this holiday season.

"Personally, I love the Christmas season," said senior Alexis Chapman. "And it means so much that we were able to work together and give back!
"We love helping others and we love this community. We're so grateful to be in the place that we are, and want to continue giving back in any way that we can!"
