UNC Athletics led the Big Sky for the fourth straight year in GSR rankings
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Once again Northern Colorado Athletics leads the Big Sky in Graduation Success Rate (GSR). It is the fourth straight year UNC leads the Big Sky.
The Bears mark of 90% is two percent higher than last year. It is the fourth time since the inception of the GSR that UNC has scored a 90 or higher. Idaho State was the closest Big Sky school to UNC's score with a percentage of 87%.
"I am so proud of our student-athletes and their hard work to overcome the challenges we have faced last year. Academic success requires student-athletes doing the work, coaches who emphasize its importance, and a caring academic support staff," said Darren Dunn, Director of Athletics. "At UNC, we have a great culture of academic success which is a critical component for Building Champions For Life. It's also important to thank UNC Faculty for being a key part of our great performance in the classroom."
Four sports had perfect GSR ratings in men's cross country/track and field, women's basketball, women's golf and women's volleyball. Four other programs had a score of 90% or better in swimming and diving (96), baseball (95), softball (94) and women's cross country/track and field (90).
The GSR was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. Under the GSR calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing.
