Dual Schedule Resumes this Weekend Against Beavers, No. 8 Cowboys

Northern Colorado travels to take on Oregon State on Friday and No. 8 Oklahoma State on Sunday
After a historic performance at the Southern Scuffle to open 2020, Northern Colorado wrestling transitions back to dual wrestling with two road contests this weekend. UNC will travel to take on Oregon State on Friday, followed by a trip to face No. 8 Oklahoma State.
The Bears made history at the Southern Scuffle last week, with a program record four placers and a sixth-place finish in the team standings, also a program mark. UNC nearly doubled its record for points at the Scuffle, improving from 45.5 in 2019 to 85 this year.
Andrew Alirez and Dalton Robertson both placed second in their respective weight classes. The two are only the second and third UNC wrestlers to make the Scuffle finals in program history. Mosha Schwartz and Alan Clothier added to the Bears success in Chattanooga, as both placed 7th in the tournament.
With his second-place finish, Alirez moved up in the rankings, listed at No. 11 by the Open Mat.com. The true freshman earns the No. 13 spot from Trackwrestling.com, No. 17 from Intermat.com and No. 19 by FloWrestling.com. Alirez improved his overall record to 15-1 at the Scuffle.
Robertson also improves his position, coming in at No. 15 by both FloWrestling and Trackwrestling. The redshirt-junior earns the No. 17 ranking from Intermat and Open Mat. Robertson holds a 15-5 overall record this season.
Schwartz continues to be among the nations best at 133, with his best ranking coming from Trackwrestling at No. 17. The true freshman earns the No. 19 spot from Intermat, No. 20 from FloWrestling and No. 23 by Open Mat. Schwartz has a 16-4 overall record this season and leads the Bears in wins.
Jacob Seely's pursuit of a third consecutive trip to NCAA's Championships looks strong with appearances in all four rankings. Seely is ranked No. 17 by Trackwrestling, No. 18 by Intermat, No. 19 by Open Mat and No. 22 in FloWrestling. The redshirt-junior has a 14-6 overall record this season.
Clothier picks up the No 28 spot in Open Mat's rankings and No. 31 by Trackwrestling. Overall this season, Clothier has a 15-4 record.
Austin Matthews performed well at the Scuffle, going 4-2 and is ranked No. 25 by Trackwrestling. Matthews is 9-5 this season.
UNC is also listed at 35th in Trackwrestling's team rankings this week. The Bears are 1-1 in duals so far this season, defeating West Virginia 31-10 and falling to Fresno State, 25-15.
Scouting the Beavers
Oregon State is 3-1 in dual matches this season and is coming off an upset of No. 22 Michigan. The Beavers upended the Wolverines, 21-15 in Ann Arbor on Sunday. The team also competed at the Southern Scuffle last week, finishing 18th as a team with three placers. Oregon St. had a pair of ranked wrestlers, with Devan Turner(133) at No. 29 and Colt Doyle(184) at No. 33. Turner placed sixth at the Scuffle and Doyle placed eighth, losing to Alan Clothier in the seventh-place match.
Last season, the Beavers defeated the Bears, 27-12, in Greeley, winning seven matches and grabbing bonus points in three of them.
Scouting the Cowboys
Oklahoma State enters the weekend ranked as high as No. 8 by Open Mat.com, while being No. 9 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll. This season, Oklahoma St. is 4-1 in dual matches and 1-0 against the Big-12. In their last dual, the Cowboys defeated their Bedlam rival, Oklahoma, 23-9 in mid-December. Oklahoma St. won the Southern Scuffle with a 116 points and had seven placers to power the team to a first-place finish in the team standings.
In last year's dual, the Cowboys blanked the Bears, 47-0 in Greeley.
Following the Bears
Northern Colorado will met Oregon St. on Friday, Jan. 10, with the first match starting at 8 p.m.(MST). UNC then travels to Stillwater to take on Oklahoma St. on Sunday, Jan. 12, starting at 2 p.m.
The dual against Oklahoma St. can be streamed live in ESPN+. Both duals will have live scoring through Trackwrestling.com.
