Football Aims for First Win of Season at Sacramento State Saturday

Opening Drive
Both Northern Colorado and Sacramento State are coming off of games against Pac 12 opponents in Washington State and Arizona State, respectively. Both the Bears and Hornets lost to the FBS foes.Â
For both teams, it is also their first game of the year against an FCS opponent. Northern Colorado opened up with San Jose State and Washington State of the FBS, while Sacramento State started with Southern Oregon (NAIA) and Arizona State. (FBS).Â
Saturday night's game does not count in the Big Sky Conference game, instead, it is both team's third non-conference game of the season.Â
With the game at Sacramento State, Northern Colorado completes its challenging schedule of three straight games on the road to open the year.Â

31 -Â Milo Hall became the first Bear since Brandon Cartagena in 2017 to carry the ball 25 or more times. He ended Saturday's game against WSU with 31 carries for 113 yards.
7 -Â Seven Bears made their debuts on Saturday for the team in Melekiola Finau, Jackson Hall, Cole Ingersoll, Chase Lanckriet, Cole Parrott, Chris Pope and James Stanton. Stanton earned the start at right guard.Â
53 -Â Milo Hall sits 53 yards shy of 1,000 rushing yards for his career as a Bear.
About the Hornets
• Sacramento State is under new leadership in first year coach Troy Taylor who came to the Hornets from Utah. At Utah he was the team's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
• Duel threat quarterback Kevin Thomson makes the Sacramento St offense go. He has passed for 566 yards and five touchdowns on the year and added on a team-leading 88 rushing yards and another score.Â
• The Hornets have a two headed monster in the backfield with Ja'Narrick James and Elijah Dotson.Â
• After scoring 77 points in the season-opener against NAIA Southern Oregon, Sacramento State held tough against Arizona State last week falling 19-7.Â
• The Hornets have a strong rush defense holding teams to just 69.5 yards per game. Â
• Sacramento State was picked to finish 11th by the coaches and 12th by the media in the Big Sky this season.
