Falcons prove to be no match for Bears

UNC volleyball got their season started early with an exhibition match the Air Force Academy. The Falcons coming off a solid season came into 2019 with a new coach and no seniors on the team and the Bears took full advantage. Sparked by a runaway win in the second set 25-8, Northern Colorado swept AFA 3-0.

After a first set win, 25-19, in which UNC went on a 15-9 stretch to win the set they broke it wide open in the middle frame highlighted by:

13 straight points with Jadyn McCartney serving.
UNC had runs of 13-0 and 7-0.

The third set was close the Bears went on an 8-0 run to break open an 11-10 match to 18-10. Air Force never really recovered and only scored three more points for the remainder of the match.

BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE

Taylor Muff had 10 kills to lead all players.
Daisy Schultz had 23 assists and 10 digs.
Maddy Bremer had a pair of kills and blocks.
Taylor Els led all Bears with 14 digs.

PRESEASON PROJECTIONS

The Bears were picked to finish fourth out of 11 teams in the preseason Big Sky Poll.

UNC will have one more warmup match before they start playing for wins and losses and is the Alumni Match on Saturday at 6 p.m.
