Gutierrez and Chen named Big Sky Scholar-Athletes

OGDEN, Utah – Mariel Gutierrez had one of the best careers any Bear athlete has had and even though she graduated from UNC in December, the awards haven't stopped coming in. On Monday, she was named as the Big Sky Scholar-Athlete of the year for Northern Colorado. Joining Gutierrez is the male winner from UNC, Li Chen who helped lead the Men's Golf program to its second-straight conference championship.
Gutierrez and Chen are two of 17 First-Team All-Conference performers to be named a scholar-athlete. In addition to her all-conference selection, Gutierrez took home the player of the year award and Golden Boot award for most points scored by a Big Sky Player.
Both athletes earned their degrees from UNC, Gutierrez in Business Finance and Chen in Sociology.
