Seniors shine in final game in the blue and gold

There have been over 90 senior days in UNC baseball history and it's to say that very few have gone as well as it went on Saturday. Karver Pate a senior from Spokane, Wash. got the start in his final game as a Bear and tossed his first career complete game. Pate was aided by the efforts of fellow senior Adrian Vela whose eighth-inning grand slam sealed the season-ending victory for UNC over Seattle, 10-4.
Before the heroics of Vela, the senior offensive star was going to be Tyler Yamaguchi who finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs.
Matt Zoba and Braxton Inniss reached to start the inning and with two outs Jack Pauley drew a walk, which allowed Vela to come to the plate one more time and he didn't waste the extra opportunity. The grand slam over the left-center field fence extended the Bears lead from 6-4 to 10-4.
Pate had no problems in the ninth. His tenth strikeout of the game brought up the final chance for the Redhawks, which was Kyle Sherick and he groundout out to Yamaguchi who came in as a defensive replacement before the at-bat. Battling a bum shoulder Yamaguchi threw out Sherick to end the game.
