Due to the threat of rain in the capitol city of California, the Bears match against Sacramento State was moved up to Thursday from Saturday. The Hornets defeated UNC by a score of 5-2.
The match began in a different fashion than the Bears were used to. In an effort to beat the threat of rain, the match began with singles play, rather than doubles.
Sac State clinched the match via a comeback on the No. 1 court, with Maria Gonzalez coming back from a 4-6 loss in the first set to Anna Battersby to take the second set 7-6 (1), and the third set 6-1.
Synclair Larson earned the first point on the day for UNC by winning the last two sets in the No. 5 spot over Frana Ugarkovic 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. Sac State also forfeited a point to Sarina Chhabra by not having a player compete in the No. 6 spot.
In doubles play, Sac State was able to take the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to cap the win. Anna Battersby/Raffa Mora were defeated 6-1 on the court 1, and Sarina Chhabra/Synclair Larson fell on court 2 by a score of 6-3. Sandra Keta/Natalie Stanton won by forfeit due to Sac State not fielding any players for the No. 3 doubles match.
The Bears now will head 21 miles west on I-80 to Davis, California for a Friday afternoon match at the University of California-Davis.
