Bears unable to defeat top-ranked NAU

The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks defeated the Bears on their first weekend stop in Colorado, defeating the Bears 6-1 to remain atop of the Big Sky Conference.

Doubles was won by the Lumberjacks when they were able to defeat Kyle Pease/Tommy Smalley 6-4 in No. 1, and Julian Kenzlers/Nick Wade 7-5 in No. 2. Michael Kritzinger/Adolfo Arroyo were unable to finish their match, which ended with them in close contention 4-5.

NAU was able to take five out of the six singles matches. Alex Exsted forced three sets against his opponent in No. 4 singles, ultimately falling in an extremely close third set 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

Julian Kenzlers earned the lone win on the day for the Bears, grinding out tough sets to defeat his opponent Chris Steele in No. 3 singles 7-6 (3), 3-6, 10-7.

Kyle Pease was defeated in No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2. Adolfo Arroyo was defeated 7-5, 6-3 in No. 2. Nick Wade fell 6-1, 6-4 in No.4, while Tommy Smalley also fell 6-3, 6-2 in No. 6.

The Bears will have to wait a few weeks to get another shot at a BSC win. Their next match will keep them in Greeley, when they face Montana State at a time TBA on March 29th.
