Montoya and Seely Will Join Sandoval in Pittsburgh

Rico Montoya and Jacob Seely received at-large selections to the NCAA Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, IA- Three Bears from Northern Colorado wrestling will be making the trip to 2019 NCAA Championships as the NCAA filled out the championship field with the 45 at-large selections. Rico Montoya(125), Chris Sandoval(141) and Jacob Seely(197) will be representing UNC in Pittsburg next week.
Sandoval left no doubt at the Big 12 Championships this past weekend, placing fifth to earn an automatic bid to the NCAAs. The Greeley, Colo. native became the first UNC wrestler to defeat a top-seeded opponent at the Big 12s, when he beat Northern Iowa's Josh Alber. Sandoval has an 8-9 overall record this season.
Montoya placed sixth at Big 12s over the weekend and qualified for the NCAAs for the third consecutive season after receiving an at-large selection. The Las Vegas, NM advanced to the consolation round of eight at the NCAA's in 2018 and looks to improve on that standing in 2019. Montoya has a 16-9 overall record this year.
Seely will be making his second appearance at the NCAAs, coming off an eighth place finish at the Big 12s. The Grand Junction, Colo. native received an at-large selection and looks to make it to the second day and further in 2018 after bowing out on day one at last year's championships. Seely has put together a 13-10 record this season.
The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, rating percentage index, coaches ranking and conference tournament finish. With the 45 at-large selections,
Montoya, Sandoval and Seely will prepare this week for the NCAA Championships next week, taking place from Thursday, March 21st to Saturday, March 23rd.
