The Bears will return to Greeley after a weekend road trip which ended with a 6-1 loss to the Idaho Vandals on Sunday.
Although the doubles point was won by Idaho, it came down to the match point with the No. 1 pairing of Anna Battersby/Raffa Mora against Marianna Petrei/Maria Tavares. The Vandals were able to come out on top 7-6 (4) over Battersby and Mora to clinch the point.
Another highlight on the day for the Bears was the No. 3 singles match between Sandra Keta and Laura Spataro. Keta was able to take Spataro three sets in what would come down to the last few shots to give Spataro the victory 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Madeline Doherty also went three sets with her opponent Anna Stefani, ultimately falling 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Head Coach Chad Stoloff was able to see the growth in his team despite a tough weekend,
"We competed tough today, made adjustments. . .we are getting stronger as a team. . .it was a good, close match. . .now we get ready for next week for two Big Sky matchups."
The Bears will now enjoy a busy month of March with seven home matches, the next one on March 1st against Northern Arizona.
The weekend started with the Bears women's tennis team leaving the state of Colorado to open their Big Sky Conference season, falling to Eastern Washington 0-7 in Cheney.
The Eagles came out ready to compete, with No. 1 doubles Raffa Mora/Sandra Keta falling 6-0 and No. 3 doubles Sarina Chhabra/Synclair Larson losing 6-2. No. 2 doubles Anna Battersby/Madeline Doherty did not finish their match.
Eastern Washington continued their momentum by sweeping the Bears in the singles matches. All of the Bears were able to keep their matches competitive, including Raffa Mora who forced three sets with her opponent Zoey Nelson.
Head Coach Chad Stoloff had this to say about the match today.
"We fought hard and we are getting better. . .hats off to Eastern Washington, they competed well and they deserved to win today. . .we are going to respond and be ready for a tough match against a strong Idaho team."
