Bears Overpower Wildcats for Second Time in 2019

Northern Colorado moved closer to a Big Sky title with a win on Thursday night
Northern Colorado volleyball fended off another second-place team in the conference standings, defeating Weber State, 3-1 [25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15]. UNC now takes a commanding three-and-a-half game lead in the conference standings.
The Bears closed the game on a 14-2 run that finished off the Wildcats hopes of forcing a fifth set. Kailey Jo Ince fueled the run with six kills and one solo block. Taylor Muff scored two late kills and had the match-clinching block at the end. Â
UNC was scoring from everywhere and efficiently on Thursday night. The Bears had four players who hit over .300 and scored eight-plus kills. Ince had a match-high 17 and a .324 attack percentage, while Muff finished with 14 kills and hit .324. Jadyn McCartney added 12 kills on a .308 attack percentage. Lauren Hinrichs put in eight kills and a .400 hitting percentage.
In the match, UNC hit .304 and held the Weber St. to a .187 attack percentage. The Bears were strong at the net, recording eight blocks, including five solo. Muff accounted for three and Ince added two.
In the first set, UNC's defense held firm, limiting the Wildcats to a .146 attack percentage. McCartney had four kills and no errors in the set to power the Bears. 25-21 win.
UNC fired on all cylinders in the second set, posting a .378 attack percentage with 17 kills. Ince and Muff each poured in five kills to overpower the Wildcats for the 25-20 set win and built a 2-0 lead in the match.
Weber St. seized the momentum in the third set, holding the Bears to a .103 attack percentage. UNC struggled with nine errors in the set and the Wildcats had life, with the 25-19 set win.
Now in the fourth set, Weber St. came out with a 3-0 run to keep their momentum from the third. UNC didn't panic and kept swinging to stay within striking distance of the Wildcats. With Weber St. up 12-11, the Bears started their run on a block by Hinrichs and Ince. UNC built the 14-2 run with a strong effort across the floor, keyed by Ince's six kills. The Bears overwhelmed the Wildcats, 25-15, hitting a staggering .469 set.
UNC improved to 12-1 in the Big Sky and 18-7 overall, sweeping the regular season series with Weber St.

- Taylor Muff recorded her ninth double-double this season, with 14 kills and 12 digs. Muff also set a career high with three solo blocks.
