Volleyball Advances to Big Sky Finals in Thrilling Fashion

Northern Colorado advanced to the face Weber State in the Big Sky title match Saturday
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Northern Colorado and Montana State combined for 48 ties and 18 lead changes in Friday's semifinal match of the Big Sky Volleyball Tournament. UNC advanced to the Big Sky Championship game with a 3-1 victory over MSU (29-27, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22). The Bears will face Weber State in the Big Sky title game on Saturday night.
In a match that was so close, it was about winning the points from 20 through 25. UNC's went on runs of 4-1, 4-0 and 7-1 in the three sets they won.
Taylor Muff was a big reason UNC jumped out to the 1-0 lead recording three straight kills to end the set. It started with a great push attack finding the back corner to even the set at 27. She followed it up by using the block to her advantage twice to win the set. Muff had eight kills and the Bears hit .326 during the first set.
Montana State extended the match to a fourth set by hitting .469 in the third set with no attack errors.
Trailing 21-18 in the fourth set Northern Colorado dug deep and went on a 7-1 run to win the match and advance to Saturday's championship match. Muff and Hinrichs each had two kills during the run.

- Friday night's win breaks the Northern Colorado record for wins in a season since moving to Division I in 2006. The Bears record now stands at 25-7.
- In the match, Kailey Jo Ince broke the UNC record for single-season kills at the DI level. She passed Kelley Arnold's record of 455 set in 2010. For the year, Ince has 470 kills. Ince tied with Taylor Muff for the team-lead with 18 kills on the night.
- Daisey Schultz recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 57 assists and 13 digs. She also broke a program DI record on Friday, this one for assists in a season. Schultz now has 1,400 assists on the year passing Marissa Hughes and her 1,384 in 2009.
- Taylor Muff recorded her 12th double-double of the season in the match with 18 kills and 21 digs.
- Four Bears finished the night with double-figure digs in Muff (21), Taylor Els (17), Schultz (13) and Jadyn McCartney (12)
- Northern Colorado has now won 29 straight matches against Montana State.
- Saturday night's Big Sky Championship match appearance is the sixth in program history. UNC is 4-1 overall winning in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Northern Colorado heads to the Big Sky Championship match on Saturday against Weber State at 7 pm PT/8 pm MT. The match will be aired on Eleven Sports and Pluto TV Ch. 531. WSU advanced to the finals by sweeping Northern Arizona on Friday night.
The winner of Saturday's match will earn the Big Sky Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Down 22-21, UNC closed set number two on a 4-0 run to take the 2-0 lead into the break. The run began with a Lauren Hinrichs kill and followed up with a pair of big blocks from Kailey Jo Ince. Her and Cece Huhn combined for the first block before Ince had a solo one to push the Bears to set point.
