Bears Ace Vikings, Win Ninth Straight

Northern Colorado had a rebound match at the service line to sweep Portland St.
Northern Colorado volleyball made it nine straight wins on Thursday night, with a sweep of Portland State [25-19, 25-11, 25-20]. UNC already has already secured the top spot in the Big Sky tournament and improves its conference record to 16-1.
Before the match, UNC honored their only senior, Taylor Els, for her career accomplishments.Â
The Bears caught fire from the service line in the second set, scoring eight service aces. The team finished with 10 for the match.
Kyndall Feather finished with three aces, including back-to-back in the second set. Her 42 aces this season is a division I program record. Jadyn McCartney matched Feather with three aces, including two in the second as well. Lauran Katarzynski scored back-to-back aces as part of the eight ace second set.
Kailey Jo Ince had another strong night, getting a match-high 16 kills while hitting .355 on 31 total attacks. McCartney continued to score efficiently, recording 12 kills with only two errors for a .455 attack percentage.
Daisy Schultz's setting was on-point again, finishing with 39 assists, adding a pair of kills as well.
As a team, UNC finished with a .267 attack percentage, getting 45 kills on 105 total attacks.
Portland State came out strong in the first set and fought UNC for every ball. The set was tied 14 times with four lead changes. Ince and McCartney had five kills
in the first set to power the Bears offense. With the score tied at 19, UNC went on a 6-0 run take a 1-0 lead in the match with the 25-19 win.
In the second set, UNC dominated the Vikings, winning 25-11. McCartney poured in another five kills and the Bears hit .321. The defense for UNC held Portland St. to a .040 attack percentage.
The Bears were now up 2-0 in the match with the sweep on their minds. The third set was all Ince, as she recorded eight kills on 15 attacks.
The Vikings could not respond to the onslaught from Ince, as they were limited to seven kills on a .100 percentage. UNC earned the sweep with a 25-20 set-three win.
Northern Colorado swept the Vikings for the second time this season.

- UNC has swept its last three opponents and has 11 sweeps this season. The Bears have nine sweeps against Big Sky opponents.
- Taylor Els had 12 digs in the match and is up to 1716 for her career. She needs 20 more digs to move into fourth on the all-time list. Els also padded her Division I ace record with one against Vikings. She now has 105 for her career.
- Cece Huhn had a career-high five total blocks on Thursday, with one solo block and four assists. The true freshman added three kills.
- Jadyn McCartney recorded her third match this season with 10+ kills and an attack percentage above .400. McCartney also nearly had the double-double, finishing with nine digs.
- Taylor Muff also just missed the double-double, finishing with 10 kills and nine digs.
