Northern Colorado men's golf and Andrew Romano each won Big Sky titles on Sunday
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Northern Colorado men's golf entered the final round of the Big Sky Championship with a five-stroke lead and took care of business on Sunday winning the program's first Big Sky Title. Not only did the team win the Big Sky championship, but Andrew Romano won the individual title as well in a playoff over Southern Utah's Fidel Concepcion.
UNC shot a 10-under for the tournament to finish three strokes ahead of second place Southern Utah. The Bears shot a 4-under 284 for the second straight day to earn the championship and berth to the NCAA tournament.
Romano was a key to the team's Big Sky title, winning the individual title as well with an 8-under 208 for the 54 holes. It took an extra hole to earn the championship by defeating Southern Utah's Fidel Concepcion in a playoff. Romano shot a 1-under 71, including knocking down four birdies.
All five Bears finished in the top 18, including Coby Welch and Li Chen in the top 10. Welch, finished at even-par by shooting a 73 on Sunday. Chen fired off the best round of the day for Northern Colorado with a 69. He moved into ninth place by the time the dust settled. Sam Marley just missed out on a top 10 finish himself with a 78 on Sunday but was 4-over for the tournament to tie for 11th. Big Sky Player of the Year Joshua Matz finished in 18th for Northern Colorado, shooting a 1-under 71.

"I am so happy for the guys especially our two seniors, Sam and Andrew, who have seen this program through thick and thin. This win was a total team effort as they all helped throughout the championship! It is always nice to have the Player of the Year, Joshua Matz, and now the conference champion Andrew Romano on our team. Now it is off to the NCAA Regionals in a few weeks. Before then we need to work on a few things but we will be ready!"
