Matz Shoots Final Round 71
FINAL ROUND RESULTS
LIHUE, Hawaii. - Northern Colorado closed out it's first tournament of the spring with a solid finish on Saturday shooting ten-over par and finishing +30 over three rounds at the John Burns Intercollegiate. The Bears final round performance secured an 18th place finish among a very strong field which included six teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation.
Joshua Matz followed up an excellent performance in round two by finishing with a final round of one-under par 71 and making him even-par for the tournament. Matz started off hot with birdies on his first two holes, but after of pair of bogeys in the next nine holes he was back at even par. He closed the final seven holes with two more bogeys, but a birdie and an eagle pulled Matz to one-under for the round and into a tie for 26th place for the tournament.
Sam Marley gave another solid performance on Saturday with a two-over par 74. It was a round of high's and low's as Sam had six holes where he shot above par, but he countered that with five birdies. Marley's performance over the three day tournament was his best of the season and landed him in a tie for 72nd at seven-over par.
After struggling his first two rounds, Li Chen was able to contribute a four-over 76 to the team score Saturday. Chen's only birdies were on back to back par 5's to go with 11 par's on today's round. Chen finished the tournament at +22.
Coby Welch added a 77 and Andrew Romano finished with an 81 in their final rounds. Welch and Romano both tie for 98th at +14 for the tournament.
Fourth-ranked Texas A&M took the team title with an outstanding final round of -14 to finish at -29 for the tournament. North Carolina jumped up two spots to tie for second at -12 with UNLV. The Rebels led for the first two rounds, but a disappointing final round of nine-over par dropped them out of the top spot.

"Although we did not finish as high as a team as we would have liked, I saw most of the guys getting back into the rhythm with their games. Joshua was excellent after the first round finishing tied for 26th in this field. Sam was also very solid the final two rounds. As a team we need to hit critical shots better and really work hard on short games. This is a good team and the numbers show we are close to competing with highly ranked teams!"
