Michaela Boon, Makenzie Harris, Cecilia Huhn, and McKenna Sciacca are headed to Greeley
Head coach Lyndsey Oates continues to add talent to the roster with announcement of four signees that will be joining Northern Colorado next season. Michaela Boon, Makenzie Harris, Cecilia Huhn, and McKenna Sciacca will be dawning the Blue and Gold in 2019.
"We are very excited about this 2019 class. It is a very balanced class," Oates said. "They will fill holes left by our seniors. We are excited to keep two Colorado kids close to home for the college experience as well as build on our recruiting efforts in Nebraska."
The four recruits will come to Greeley with a wealth of accomplishments during their high school careers.
Michaela Boon
Boon joins the Bears from Norris High School in Cortland Neb. where she was star performer on and off the court. During her career at Norris, Boon filled up the stat sheet with 2900 assists, 220 aces, 850 digs, and 500 kills. Boon was named to the EMC All-Conference Team in 2017 and 2018. Off the court, Boon earned EMC Academic All-Conference in 2017 and 2018, while being named to the All-State Volleyball team in 2017. Along with volleyball, Boon played Basketball at Norris. Boon plans on majoring in Dietetics next fall.
Oates' thoughts on Boon:
"Michaela is a firecracker. She plays feisty defense and yet has good control in serve receive. That combination is not always there in defensive players. She will definitely add to our already talented back court."
Makenzie Harris
The recruiting pipeline from Eaton High School continues to pay dividends for Oates and Bears with addition of Harris to the roster. Harris was named to the All-Conference team the past three seasons (2016-18) and was an All-State first team selection in 2017. She was also an All-State honorable mention in 2016. Harris helped the Reds win state championships in 2015, 2016, and 2017. At UNC, Harris plans on majoring in Behavioral Sciences.
On Harris:
"Kenzie is a very talented player that is going to grow leaps and bounds as she gets to the college level. She is just scratching the surface of her potential. She will likely be the highest player on our roster. She is very capable of hitting over blockers and will be a blocker that we match up with the opponent's biggest attacker."
Cecelia Huhn
Huhn arrives in Greeley from Plymouth High School in Crescade, Wis. with a lot of excitement to continue her playing career. During her career at Plymouth, Huhn was named to the All-Conference first team and second team during. Huhn was named MVP of her volleyball team and was on the High Honor Roll. Huhn has an interest in pursuing a degree in Nursing at UNC.
On Huhn:
"Cece is a physical athlete who comes to us with good experience. Being a coach's kid is always a plus in my mind. She is a great fit for our program in all aspects."
McKenna Sciacca
Sciacca will stay in state after attending Lewis-Palmer High School in Monument, Colo., where she lettered four years in volleyball. In 2017, Sciacca was an All-State first team selection and MVP. Sciacca was selected to the All-State second team in 2016 and earned the Most Improved player award in her 2015, freshman season. During her high school career, Sciacca helped Lewis-Palmer winning three state championships Sciacca was also named the Gazette Peak Performer of the Week. Sciacca plans on pursuing a degree in either nursing or elementary education.
On Sciacca
"Sciacca is so consistent. From her demeanor to her set location to her leadership on the court…she is a rock. You know what you're going to get out of her. She comes from a volleyball family where she has seen her older sisters play college volleyball. She will be more ready for the college level than most freshmen."
