Northern Colorado football fought until the end, scoring 26 straight, but coming up short against UC Davis
UNC's late offensive production was sparked behind the play of quarterback Conor Regan and wide receiver Alex Wesley. The duo teamed up for six completed passes for 128 yards a touchdown and a pair of two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. All in all, Regan was 14-for-20 with 238 yards and two touchdowns in the final 9:15 of play.
For the game, Regan completed 28 of his 48 pass attempts for 387 yards and two touchdowns. Wesley ended with nine receptions for 178 yards and two touchdowns.
UC Davis's dynamic offense came out and showed why they are so potent early on behind the passing duo of quarterback Jake Maier and Keelan Doss. The two connected 11 times on the day for 161 yards and a touchdown. Maier ended up with three more touchdown passes, all to Wesley Preece, and 382 yards.
The Aggies controlled the action in the first quarter scoring twice and missing a field goal while holding the Bears to 40 yards of offense. That early 14-0 was enough distance between the two teams as UC Davis kept the Bears an arm's length away for the remainder of the game.
UNC gained traction at the end of the first quarter starting an eight play, 65-yard drive that turned into a touchdown early in the second. Trae Riek accumulated 22 yards on the drive, including the final five leading to paydirt to cut the Aggie lead in half.
The Aggies responded on the next drive and never looked back going up 21-7. The Bears offense added on a field goal before the half to trail 28-10.Â
UC Davis outscored the Bears 14-0 in the third quarter and made it 21 straight points with an early fourth quarter touchdown to go up 49-10. From there it was all UNC with 26 consecutive points to close out the game, including a Brooks Talkington safety.

What They Said
Head Coach Earnest Collins Jr.
Overall thoughts on the game
"Game plan wise we wanted to come out and run the ball to keep their offense off the field. We were doing that for the most part, but when you are giving up turnovers and not getting turnovers you should have you can get behind quick. We had a couple of interceptions we dropped early that could have changed momentum but dropped them and it's hard to overcome that and turning the ball over yourself."
Wide Receiver Alex Wesley
How do you feel like the team responded and fought through the whole game this week?
"Last week was a big time let down. We gave up at the end of the game then, and were down big in the fourth this week, but kept fighting. I am proud of these guys for switching it up and fighting their heart out until the very end."
Quarterback Conor Regan
What changed from the first to the second half to get you and the offense going?
"For the first half, it was rough. I was not reading it the way I should have been. The coaches and leaders on the team were getting on me telling me 'to pick it up we have to get this going.' I struck a fuse and recognized the coverages and started to make plays."
