Northern Colorado Cross Country Opens 2017 with Solid Showing

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Northern Colorado cross country team opened its 2017 season on Friday night competing at the CSU Duals. The women's team scored 162 team points to finish sixth overall, while the men had a score of 220 for ninth.
The Bears faced a tough field featuring a variety of strong competition on both the men's and women's side including Top 25 ranked teams in Air Force, Colorado and Colorado State.
Northern Colorado's best performance on each side came from Katy East on the women's side, clocking in just under 19 minutes, at 18:59. Meanwhile, sophomore Josh Campbell ran his 5k in 15:52 for 31st overall.
Stephen Hass (16:06), was the only other Bear on the men's side to finish in the Top 40. All five of Northern Colorado's women finished in the Top 40. Alaina Anderson and Alicia Thompson finished second and third for UNC, with times of 19:19 and 19:28, respectively.
After taking on the tough competition on Friday night, UNC has 15 days off before its next meet. The Bears will head to Bozman, Montana on September 16 to compete in the Montana State/ Bozman Running Club Invite.
