San Luis Obispo, Cali. – In what was a thrilling dual, Northern Colorado dropped a nail biter to Cal Poly this afternoon. The Bears lost in dramatic fashion 21-18, as it came down to the very last match to determine the eventual winner.
Northern Colorado started off hot, winning the first three matches of the dual, climbing to a 14-0 lead out of the gates.
Trey Andrews bounced back after a tough loss Friday night, and pinned Brandon Staley to start things off for the Bears.
At 133 lbs., Rico Montoya won his second match in a row, with a dominant 11-2 victory over Yoshi Funakoshi.
Ensuing Montoya's win, Timmy Box also won via major decision by a score of 21-8 over Ty Schilling.
The Bears dropped the next two matches, bringing the score to 14-6.
[165] Keilan Torres was the last Northern Colorado wrestler to win, with a 9-0 major decision over Luke Wilson.
In what was a major comeback, Cal Poly proceeded to win the next four matches of the dual en route to a 21-18 comeback.
Northern Colorado will be back in action for the last home dual meet of the season against Wyoming, Feb. 8 at 7 PM (MT).
