@UNCO_MBB Breaks the Century Mark in Exhibition Win
11/2/2017 10:47:00 PM | Men's Basketball
GREELEY - The UNC Bears Men's basketball team kicked off their exhibition season against the Johnson and Wales Wildcats. Â Andre Spight scored the first bucket of the game assisted by Jordan Davis. Â The Wildcats kept it close until the Bears went on a 9-0 run just past halfway of the first half. Â The run was highlighted by a thunderous Tanner Morgan dunk and a Chaz Glotta three pointer.Â
The Bears ended the half on an 11-2 run and scored 15 points off turnovers while only committing five turnovers themselves. Bears led at half 55-38.
UNC started the second half on fire hitting 7 of their first 9 shots extending the lead to 26 points. Â Anthony Johnson scored 9 points before the first media timeout in the 2nd half. Andre Spight scored 12 points in 5 minutes in the middle of the second half. Â The Bears took almost half of their shots from behind the arc and hit 50% of them to pull away in the game. UNC also held the Wildcats to five threes attempted and most of those were taken when the game was already out of hand.Â
The Bears eclipsed the century mark in their 106 to 81 win over Johnson and Wales. Â Johnson led the way for UNC with 23 points and Spight put up 20. Three other Bears scored in double digits and the team shot 60.9. "We wanted to make sure they beat us with twos. We did a great job taking away the three up until the last four minutes of the game," said Head Coach Jeff Linder.
"I just missed being out on the court and having that home court advantage feeling," said Anthony Johnson about being back in Greeley and playing again for the Bears. "It was good for especially the new guys and the guys who were sitting out last year to get back in front of the crowd and get their feet wet. Anthony and Andre showed no rust and shot the right shots," said Linder.
Make sure to make your way to Fort Collins Sunday as the Bears battle the Colorado State Rams in a charity exhibition game. The game will NOT be broadcast on 1310 KFKA because UNC wants their fans at the game to cheer on the Bears. All proceeds go to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. Â All seats, other than courtside, are general admission and will be $5 each, with all proceeds from the ticket sales going to the charity. In addition, a portion of all concessions proceeds will be going to the charity donation as well. Those who cannot attend can donate directly at https://www.unidosporpuertorico.com/en/. Tickets for the game can be purchased online through www.CSURams.com/tickets
