DENVER – The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame announced its class of 2018 earlier this week, and former Northern Colorado football head coach Joe Glenn is one of six inductees.
Glenn will be joined by former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, Colorado running back Rashaan Salaam, former Fairview High School football coach Sam Pagano, former basketball player Tracy Hill and Alex Burl a former football and track athlete at Colorado State.
Glenn was the architect of the back-to-back Division II National Championships won by Northern Colorado in 1996 and 1997. He joined the staff at UNC in 1986 as the quarterbacks and kicking coach, before moving into the head coaching roll in 1989. As the head man of the football program, Glenn went 98-35 for a .737 winning percentage, the best in program history by a head coach. As the Bears' head coach, Glenn coached some of the top players to come through the program including 1999 Harlon Hill Trophy winner Corte McGuffy.
Following his 11 year stint with Northern Colorado, Glenn took over as the head coach at the University of Montana where he went 39-6 in his three seasons, including winning the 2001 NCAA FCS National Championship. Glenn's coaching career continued at the University of Wyoming from 2003-08 where he took the Cowboys to their first bowl appearance in 11 years and won the team's first bowl game in 38 years. After being out of coaching for four years, Glenn returned to his Alma Matter, South Dakota in 2012 where he coached the Coyotes for three seasons before retiring.
Glenn is the 11th person inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame with ties to the University of Northern Colorado.
The 2018 induction banquet will be held on April 18, 2018, at the Denver Hilton City Center. Tickets can be purchased through the Hallo Fame's website.
