Day  2 Results
Colorado Springs, Colo. – Facing only the Red Hawks of Seattle this morning, Northern Colorado Swim and Dive were unable to match their performance from the day previous, falling 139-84.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kimberly Kuni kicked off things for the Bears on day two, finishing second in the heat and well ahead of any Seattle swimmer in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Things began to cool off, however, as Northern Colorado failed to place in the 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM.
Northern Colorado once again looked to freshman diver, Allyson Wood for a momentum building performance. The Rancho Santa Margarita native would not disappoint, finishing second and taking full diving points, as Seattle did not travel a diving squad.
Sydney Kovar used the diving break to prepare herself for what would be a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Kovar's 55.10 was less than a second behind the Red Hawk's Kristina Hoffman.
Eyeing a bit of resurgence, Leilani Herrera also put together a second place performance in the 100-yard backstroke, beat out by a mere three one-thousands of a second.
Kim Kuni reappeared for her second long-distance swim of the day in the 500-yard freestyle. Kuni once again found a podium finish, touching the wall in second with a time of 5:21.28.
When it came to the second and final diving break of the meet, this time the 3-meter, there was little doubt Allyson Wood would finish outside the podium. In fact, Wood made it 2-3 for the weekend, taking the event with a score of 227.25.
In the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Northern Colorado couldn't find a top-three finish, allowing two Seattle teams to finish ahead of them and when the dust settled, saw themselves fall to the Red Hawks 139-84.
BEST PERFORMANCE
Allyson Wood – One first place and one second place finish in the diving events today. Winning two of three events across the weekend.
IN THEIR WORDS
Assistant Coach, Rachael Mullen
"With our team coming off a pretty long and tough training cycle, this was an exciting meet for them to get up and race. It was great seeing the hard work they have been putting in on a daily basis show up in their swims. That work helped them win some close races and come away with a team win this weekend as well."
UP NEXT
Northern Colorado will go on the road to face defending WAC Champion Northern Arizona. The Bears will return home when they host Nebraska Kearney and CSU Pueblo on January 28 for Senior Day.
