5/26/2016 4:56:00 PM | Baseball
UNC baseball season came to an end against Bakersfield on Thursday afternoon
How It Happened
Northern Colorado loaded the bases to start the game with a Ryan Yamane walk and back-to-back bunt singles from Dean Lawson and Cole Maltese. Corey Nakakura would drive home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
That would be lone run of the inning for UNC as they left the bases loaded.
CSU Bakersfield would respond in the bottom of the first with three runs of its own.
The Bears would tie the game in the third with a Brett Minnick RBI double down the leftfield line and then coming home on the Cam Huber RBI single later in the inning.
Bakersfield would score a run in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim the lead at 4-3. They would expand their lead to 8-5 with four runs in the fifth.
UNC would continue to battle in the game with Rob Cashel reaching on a bunt single and Jacob Ek walking early on in the inning. Yamane would bring both runners home with
a two out, two run double to right centerfield.
The Roadrunners added on three more insurance runs in the seventh to make it an 11-5 game.
Northern Colorado would add on one run in the ninth from Lawson.
Game Changing Moment
The fifth inning proved to be the big inning for CSUB and the one that put UNC away. The Roadrunners would take advantage of four Bears pitchers during that inning scoring
four runs on two hits, one error, four walks and a hit by pitch.
