GREELEY, Colo. – Men's basketball head coach Jeff Linder announced his first addition to the roster since taking over the program earlier in the month. Linder inked DJ Miles from Otero Junior College who will join the Bears for his final two years of competition.
"We are really excited about DJ Miles becoming a Bear," Linder said of his first UNC commit. "He comes from one of the best junior college programs at Otero, and was led by one of the best coaches in all of junior college, Houston Reed. When you recruit programs at the junior college level the transition is much smoother. The two years that DJ spent under the watchful eye of Coach Reed will allow him the opportunity to come in and compete for playing time right away. We couldn't be happier about DJ joining our program."
Miles is coming off a strong sophomore campaign at OJC, averaging 16.0 points per game and shot 40.5% from beyond the arc.
The UNC signee was tabbed First Team All-Conference and made the JUCO All-American Honorable Mention list in 2015-16. He led the Rattlers to a 27-6 overall record, including a 15-1 Region IX South record. With Miles at the helm, OJC was able to go on a 15-0 run throughout the season.
He leaves Otero in the Top 20 all-time in scoring.
A Lakewood, Colorado native, Miles played his high school ball just down the road at Bear Creek where he was a three year letterman for the basketball team.
Miles had a laundry list of accolades at BCHS. He was First Team All-Conference during both his junior and senior seasons, along with earning Second Team All-Conference honors during his sophomore year.
He broke school records for points per game and free throws made in a season. He also ranks 10th in the CHSAA state records in free throws made in a season, third for free throws made in a game, eighth in free throw season attempts, and third in free throw attempts in a game.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
- Averaged 16.0 ppg at Otero Junior College last season
- Three time All-Conference Honors at Bear Creek High School
- Junior College All-American Honorable Mention
- Led OJC to 15 straight wins
DJ is the son of Derris and Leah Michael-Miles. He plans to pursue either Coaching or Broadcast Journalism at Northern Colorado.
