UNC Self-Imposes Penalties to Men’s Basketball Program

GREELEY, Colo. - While the NCAA continues its investigation into the men's basketball program, the University of Northern Colorado has announced that it will self-impose a number of penalties.
UNC notified the NCAA of the decision on Friday.
The penalties stem from a self-report UNC made to the NCAA last April after learning of allegations of serious and concerning program violations.
UNC will impose the following penalties:
UNC is committed to taking responsibility for the violations and will continue to cooperate with the NCAA investigation, which is expected to take a number of months. In accordance with NCAA Bylaws, the university will not provide further comment until the investigation concludes.

UNC will impose the following penalties:
- A postseason ban, including the conference tournament, for the 2016-17 men's basketball season.
- A financial penalty of $5,000 plus 2 percent of the men's basketball program budget.
- A reduction of a total of three financial aid awards provided to men's basketball student-athletes during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
- The following restrictions to recruiting over the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years:
- Four fewer official visits
- A total of eight weeks' prohibition on unofficial visits
- A total of seven weeks' prohibition on recruiting communications
- A total of 20 days' reduction in off-campus recruiting activities ,
