CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Northern Colorado Bears fell to the Oregon State Beavers on Sunday afternoon, 35-6, after winning just two matches.
"Today we were beaten by a tough team," head coach Troy Nickerson said. "Overall I thought we wrestled well, but we were unable to finish a lot of matches. Eleazar and Trent did a nice job getting their wins, though. We will need to continue to get tougher to win our conference duals in the coming weeks."
Eleazar De Luca got the first points on the board for the Bears in the fifth match of the afternoon. After a scoreless first period, De Luca kicked off the second with an escape followed by a takedown to give himself a 3-0 lead. Despite giving up two escapes in the time remaining in the match, he would hold on, picking up a 3-2 decision win to give the UNC team three team points.
At 197 pounds, Trent Noon was the only other Bear to post a win on the day, picking up a decision win over Cody Crawford. With a takedown a minute and a half into the match, Noon was able to go up early, also tacking on 1:31 of riding time before the end of the period. With a neutral start in the second period, Noon added another takedown to make it a 4-0 lead. After gaining a point for a second stall call on Crawford as well as locking up the riding time advantage point, Noon would cruise through the rest of the match, ending with a 6-2 win. Noon also defeated Crawford earlier in the season at the Cliff Keen Invitational, 5-4.
Northern Colorado closes out their away portion of regular season next Saturday when they travel up to Laramie, Wyoming to face the Cowboys (Feb. 12 at 7p.m.).
