Match Notes: Northern Colorado | Big Sky | Kansas | Marquette | Wyoming

GREELEY, Colo.—The challenging non-conference season continues for Northern Colorado volleyball Friday and Saturday, when UNC travels north to take part in Pistol Pete's Showdown. The Bears along with host Wyoming, #22 Kansas and Marquette will all compete in the tournament.

Northern Colorado starts the weekend facing #22 Kansas Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. This will be the third straight match that UNC has faced a Top 25 team. The previous two matches came against then #15 Arizona State and #14 Colorado State. Kansas enters the match on a 12-set win streak, and has only dropped one set this year. It is fifth time the Bears and Jayhawks have squared off against each other, but first time since 1987. Northern Colorado holds a 3-1 series lead over KU.

In the team's second match on Friday, UNC will face Marquette for the first time. The Golden Eagles come into the weekend with a 5-1 record and receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25. Marquette faces Wyoming earlier in the day, before taking on the Bears at 5:00 p.m.

The weekend will conclude on Saturday night when Northern Colorado faces off against host Wyoming at 6:30 p.m. The Cowgirls started off 2015 with a bang, sweeping nationally ranked Ohio State. UW has continued to use that momentum from the season opening upset entering the weekend at 5-1 and receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25. The Bears and Cowgirls will be matching up against each other for the 19th time. UNC holds a 10-8 lead in the series, including winning last season's match in Greeley 3-1.

For the Bears, they will continue to look to expand on the attack with the emergence of middle blockers Alex Kloehn, Emily O'Neil and Natalya King. The trio have opened up UNC's attack, taking pressure off of outside hitters Kendra Cunningham and Katie Champion.

Following this weekend's action, Northern Colorado will return home to host the Hampton Inn and Suites Northern Colorado Classic over September 18 and 19.
