[ROUND TWO RESULTS]
ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – The Northern Colorado men's golf team shaved six strokes off its first round team score in day two of the Big Sky Championship in California.
The Bears carded a 306 (+18 overall) as a team on Tuesday led once again by junior Conner Barr.
"Again today the guys competed very hard," said head coach Roger Prenzlow. "But again today we made some crucial mistakes and bad swings which did not allow us to play a good round."
Barr concluded day two shooting a +2 over, 74, improving off his first round total of 76.
The junior was -2 under par through six holes of play, but bogeyed two out of his last three holes to head into the turn at even par.
Barr capped off the final nine holes of the day with a birdie on 18 to finish the back, and the day at +2 over.
He now sits at +6 over for the Championship and was able to move up two spots on the leaderboard into the Top 10, taking sole control of 10th. Barr is just five strokes back from the Top 5 heading into Wednesday's final round.
"It will be fun to watch Conner play for a solid Top 10 finish tomorrow," Prenzlow stated. "If he continues to improve as he's done throughout the rounds, he'll catch some players on the leaderboard."
Freshman Sam Marley repeated his round one score. Marley again fired a +5 over, 77 in the second 18 holes of the tournament.
The freshman holed a team-high five birdies, but was unable to make the count marking two double bogeys on the back nine.
Despite back-to-back consistent rounds of play Marley dropped three spots today and now sits in a two-way tie for 19th overall.
With 18 holes to play, Marley is just four strokes back from the Top 10.
"Sam has a chance for a nice tournament," said Prenzlow. "If he plays a solid round tomorrow he could find himself finishing in the Top 15 or better."
Julian Woodfork took a page from Marley's book and also matched his round one total of 78. Woodfork came into the clubhouse with identical scores of 39 on each nine to end the day at +6 over.
The sophomore is posted up just outside the Top 25, sitting in 26th place overall.
Fellow sophomore Jack Cummings played the Greenhorn Golf Resort at a much higher level, erasing five strokes off his game from the opening round.
Cummings had momentum on his side heading into the last nine holes playing even par on the front, but the back nine got to the second year Bear, totaling three bogeys and a triple to conclude the day with a +5 over, 77.
He is in 31st place after two rounds.
Freshman Andrew Romano adjourned the day for UNC. Romano tallied a +10 over, 82 on the day, golfing one stroke higher than his round one total of 81.
The first year golfer dropped nine positions in the rankings to 38th overall.
The golf team heads into the final round of the Big Sky Championship on Wednesday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. (PST). Live results for the finale can be found here.
