ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – The Northern Colorado men's golf team finished its season on a high note in the final round of the Big Sky Conference Championship on Wednesday.
The Bears completed the third round with a team score of 304, their lowest round of the Championship, totaling a 922 (312, 306, 304) and a coming in sixth place overall.
"It was nice to see the guys play a bit better today," said head coach Roger Prenzlow. "Jack [Cummings] played one of his best rounds of the year and that was nice to see. Conner [Barr] had a very solid tournament. Like I said to the team, we learned a ton about ourselves this season and will continue to grow and get better this summer."
Sophomore Jack Cummings had to be happy with the way he ended his season. Cummings posted the low round of the day for UNC with a +1 over, 73, and the lowest round of the tournament of anyone on the team.
After bogeying hole 1, the sophomore marked three straight birdies, before holing another bogey on 5. He completed the front nine at -1 under.
On the last nine, Cummings had back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13, but scored five straight pars after that to end the back nine at +2 over and the day at +1 over.
Cummings jumped six positions on the leaderboard for a Top 25 finish, tying for 25th overall.
Junior Conner Barr had the best finish at the Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort coming in 15th place. Barr shot a +4 over, 76, identical to his round one total.
After a rough go of the front nine shooting +4 over, Barr came back strong finishing at even par on the final nine hole stretch.
Also earning a Top 25 finish was freshman Sam Marley. After marking back-to-back rounds of 77, Marley came into the clubhouse with a 78 on Wednesday.
The first year golfer shot +3 over on both nines to complete the tournament at +16 over.
Finishing two positions back of Cummings and Marley was sophomore Julian Woodfork. Woodfork fired his best round of the Championship with a +5 over, 77.
The sophomore concluded his day with 10 pars and two birdies en route to a 27th place finish.
Freshman Andrew Romano also capped off the tournament with his best round. Romano had a respectable front nine going into the turn at +3 over, but had some difficulty on the back marking two double bogeys to finish at +5 over.
His round of 80 on the day solidified a 37th place finish.
"With our All-Conference player, Steven Kupcho coming back next season, along with two great incoming freshman and the team we have, next year should be fun," Prenzlow said.
That concludes the 2014-15 year for the men's golf team. They will be back in action in September for the start of the fall season.
